Basin Arts is proud to announce a joint partnership with KRVS Radio, UL College of the Arts, and BARE Walls, installing local art within the on-campus radio station along with the launch of ART CIRCLE, a new monthly radio program interviewing local visual and performing artists.
The inaugural ART CIRCLE radio program will launch on Monday October 30th at 3pm on KRVS 88.7fm and feature musician Mo Prejean, part of the two member hip-hop duo Armed Rhymery, and visual artist Dirk Guidry. This recurring monthly program will be hosted by UL College of the Arts Dean Daryl Moore and feature different artists each month. ART CIRCLE can also be streamed online here: https://www.krvs.org/podcast/apres-midi.
This dynamic community partnership is sponsored by Rader Solutions and aims to increase creative and income-generating opportunities for visual artists, to bring cultural vibrancy to the KRVS studios for visitors, employees, and online viewers, and for the radio program to increase awareness of the vibrant and diverse creative talent in Acadiana.
“KRVS’ partnership with Basin Arts reflects our longstanding commitment to promote this region’s culture,” said general manager Cheryl Devall. “We’re beyond pleased that our collaboration involves visual and performing arts, available to station visitors on the walls of our facility and to listeners on our weekday Après-Midi program.”
Dean Moore states, “I’m delighted to host ART CIRCLE — a contemporary visual and performing arts-focused collaboration that will be a fertile platform for creative discovery and dialogue from the talented and diverse voices of the Lafayette community and greater Acadiana region.”
BARE Walls is an art subscription service, operated through Basin Arts, which turns “bare” walls into gallery space while also providing residual income for working artists in Acadiana. Recent gallery projects have included artwork installations at the Lafayette Regional Airport and Maison Freetown. Since its launch in 2019, BARE Walls has generated over $50,000 of residual income to local artists and boasts a roster of over 70 local artists.
Clare Cook, Creative Director of Basin Arts said, “Basin Arts and BARE Walls hopes to be a way to connect artists with the greater community. It is motivating to have partners in KRVS, UL College of the Arts, and Rader Solutions that also believe in the power of collaboration and resource sharing to cultivate a more informed, more creative, and more inspired region.”
The current exhibition at the KRVS studios will be up through December 2023, and the Art Circle Radio Program will air on the last Monday of each month live on 88.7FM, streaming at https://www.krvs.org/podcast/apres-midi, or via the KRVS app.
