1. Give us a brief history of your company. The Town Planner is a franchise that was started over 30 years ago.  Mandi Pooler is the local franchise over and publishes nine editions of the Town Planner Community Calendar.  The Town Planner is mailed to homes in Acadiana free of charge.  They feature local events, public school schedules and ads and coupons for local businesses.  The Lafayette Town Planner also publishes the officially licensed calendar of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
Dr. Loren Scott was the keynote speaker of the event. He spent the last three decades focused on economic matters. Dr. Scott is the President of Loren c. Scott & Associates, Inc, a 34-year old economic consulting firm whose clients include such large national firms as BP, Entergy, ExxonMobil, Nucor, Sasol, Chespeake Energy, and a diversity of others. 

The struggling Lafayette economy, which has shed thousands of jobs from an oil-driven recession, will “turn the corner” in 2019 and move into a relatively strong growth period according to Dr. Loren Scott during his economic outlook speech Wednesday morning.

Loren Scott, professor of economics at LSU's Ourso College of Business, gave Acadiana business leaders a reason to be optimistic Wednesday morning when he presented his annual economic outlook for the region.

Scott spoke at a breakfast event presented by One Acadiana and IberiaBank.

For several years, forecasters such as Scott have not given the business community much to look forward to.

The southern parishes of the Pelican State have got the secret sauce for success, matching a solid track record of growth with a unique quality of life.

The New York Times said it “may well be the last cohesive cultural enclave in the U.S.” and Anthony Bourdain called it “special, unique, unlike anywhere else.” The world says, “Cajun Country” and locals say “Acadiana.” They’re all referring to one place: South Louisiana.

The Lafayette Parish School System (LPSS) is the first local government entity in Louisiana to provide financial transparency to the public online. It launched a new website, LafayetteCheckbook.com, on Tuesday, just months after the school board’s unanimous vote to create it.

Justin Centanni of Lafayette, a school board member from District 6, demonstrated how the website works Wednesday to a room full of members of One Acadiana, the local chamber of commerce. Centanni said he received nothing but positive feedback.

Liskow & Lewis shareholder, April L. Rolen-Ogden, has been selected as a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America. The Litigation Counsel of America (“LCA”) is an invitation-only trial lawyer honorary society composed of less than one-half of one percent of American lawyers. Fellows are selected based upon excellence and accomplishment in litigation, both at the trial and appellate levels, and superior ethical reputation.

What would you tell the rest of Acadiana makes you special?

With the opening of applications for the 2019 class of Leadership Lafayette, One Acadiana and the Leadership Institute of Acadiana held its first joint Coffee Connection meeting Tuesday morning to detail the work the two organizations are doing.

District 8 City-Parish Councilwoman Liz Webb Hebert has been working for more than two years to address the lack of bus stop shelters for Lafayette Transit System riders. Throughout the City of Lafayette, riders can catch a bus at 650 stops.
