Two-Day Carencro Goodwill Grand Opening to Take Place Early December

Retail store set to move into former Fred’s building

Carencro, LA, Nov. 20, 2019--Goodwill Industries of Acadiana will be hosting a two-day grand opening event on Friday, Dec. 6 and Saturday, Dec. 7 to celebrate the relocation of its Carencro retail store. The event will take place at the new location in the former Fred’s building at 812 Veterans Drive.

The grand-opening celebration will be held from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. on both days and will include giveaways and an hourly drawing. All attendees 18 years of age and older will be able to enter a raffle for a chance to win Goodwill gift cards in varying amounts up to $100. This occasion marks the first time members of the community will be able to enter and see the inside of the renovated shopping space.

The current Goodwill store in Derek Plaza opened in 2013, and the last day it will remain open to the public before the move is Tuesday, Dec. 3. Over the past six years, the Carencro store has provided the community a place to find bargains on clothes, shoes, accessories, furniture, and more. Since the store doubles as a donation center, it has also contributed to diverting thousands of pounds of items from landfills. The move to the bigger facility offers more space for one-of-a-kind items and the addition of a Job Connection center right inside the store. The Job Connection center will allow Goodwill Acadiana to extend its employment services and enhance the organization’s mission of creating jobs in the Acadiana area.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support we have received from the Carencro community these past few years,” says President and CEO Deacon Ed Boustany. “It’s because of this overwhelming support and generosity from our customers and donors, that we wanted to find a way to increase our impact in the area. We intend for this new Job Connection center to become a valuable resource to those in the community who are seeking employment.”

Goodwill Acadiana’s Job Connection services provide job seekers with a place to explore career opportunities and develop job skills. The services are offered free of charge and include workshops, personal counseling, computer and internet access, career assessments, resume writing, and more.
