The Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts (AIVA) has announced winners in the 26th Annual Communicator Awards, presenting One Acadiana (1A) with a Silver Award of Distinction for its “Nine United” video series.

LAFAYETTE, La., May 26, 2020 – One Acadiana, the leading economic development organization for the nine-parish region of Acadiana, today announced the appointment of Steven P. Hebert, President and CEO of Billeaud Companies, as Chairman of its Board of Directors. Hebert, who joined the Board in 2018, succeeds Dr. Natalie Harder, Chancellor of South Louisiana Community College, who served as Board Chair since January 2019. Dr. Harder is leaving the organization to become the 17th President of Coker University in South Carolina.

Louisiana's oil and gas companies saw several items on their legislative wish list move forward this week, as a bill addressing severance taxes cleared a significant hurdle Friday.

The Louisiana Oil and Gas Association has outlined several bills and resolutions they support in the 2020 Legislative Session, many of which the group says would give the state's oil producers much-needed aid as the industry faces a historic oil crisis.

Jobs in health care will likely be the highest in demand as the region and state emerge from the coronavirus pandemic, one higher education official said.

Jermaine Ford, vice president of workforce and economic development at South Louisiana Community College, said Tuesday that data indicates health care jobs will be in “tremendous demand.” His comments were part of a One Acadiana webinar with higher education officials.

The clock is ticking down until the Regular Session must adjourn on June 1, but the end of the Regular Session will signal the beginning of a Special Session, as Louisiana’s Legislature has issued a call for a Special Session to begin one minute after the Regular Session ends.
