VieMed, one of the nation's fastest growing home respiratory disease management companies, has been named the Large Business of the Year for the Junior Achievement of Acadiana's annual Business Hall of Fame. 

VieMed, now publicly traded on the NASDAQ (VMD), is currently licensed in over 47 states. The business provides home respiratory service to over 22,000 patients struggling with respiratory diseases including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and various neuromuscular diseases. 

Lafayette — Today, Gov. John Bel Edwards and SchoolMint CEO Bryan MacDonald announced the education software company will consolidate its U.S. operations in Lafayette, Louisiana, including transferring its headquarters from San Francisco. In the latest tech win for the Acadiana Region, the specialty software development company also will relocate corporate offices from New York and Miami to Lafayette and make a $515,000 capital investment in new facilities.

The Acadiana Planning Commission and the Acadia Parish Chamber of Commerce are hosting a virtual Opportunity Zone Asset Mapping Meeting for Church Point via Zoom from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4.


“We are inviting the community members of Church Point to attend a brief presentation by APC and give us your feedback about the assets of your community and what you would like to see in future economic development,” said AMy Thibodeaux, Chamber president and CEO.

Area lawmakers said Wednesday that Acadiana enjoyed numerous successes during the 2020 legislative sessions.

But challenges to business recovery from COVID-19 will loom largest if lawmakers return for a special session in the fall, perhaps in October. Discussion about a fall session would not likely start until August, lawmakers said.

Five Acadiana legislators, all Republicans, met on a Zoom conference — more than 130 people were on the call — and touted these among boosts or potential benefits to the economy in a time of pandemic:
