One Acadiana Brings Back Acadiana Opportunity Initiative for Job Seekers in Wake of Covid-19 Pandemic

One Acadiana has brought back a portal to help jobseekers during the Covid-19 pandemic. Anna Osland, Director of Workforce and Policy Initiatives at One Acadiana, virtually stopped by News15 at Noon to explain what this portal can offer to those unemployed due to the global pandemic.

The site is a collaboration of regional partners including One Acadiana, LEDA, Acadiana Workforce Solutions, and several others. The goal is to connect workers who have lost a job as a result of COVID-19 with retraining and employment resources.

The Acadiana region used this portal to successfully assist displaced oil and gas workers pivot to new careers during the 2015 downturn. The updated site provides resources for out of work individuals from all industries.

Displaced workers can qualify for funding to support their retraining. Interested adults can use the in-take form on the site to apply. There is also limited funding for students age 16-24 to gain work experience.

The portal lists relevant program offerings at SLCC, LSU Eunice, and UL Lafayette as well as links to connect interested students directly with admissions counselors.

Workers can also use the portal to connect to job assistance resources available through Acadiana Workforce Solutions, LEDA, and Louisiana Job Connection.
