1. Give us a brief history of your company.

In 1960, Percy J. Fontenot was a visionary who began purchasing small parcels of land from Frank “Cazan” Fontenot, better known as “Mr. Cazan”, the sheriff of Evangeline Parish. Decades later and with the support of his wife Elsie, Percy continued to purchase parcels of land acquiring 3,500+ acres of property known today as PJF Farm & Lodge. Anita M. Fontenot, a One Acadiana Investor, and her son Douglas C. Frugé II are the second and third-generation farmers and managers of PJF Farm & Lodge.

2. What would you tell the rest of Acadiana makes you special?

PJF Farm and Lodge, a conservation and recreation area at Cazan Lake, is nestled on 3,500+ acres of land 7 miles north of Ville Platte, Louisiana. Approximately, 1,400 acres are used for the production and harvesting of rice and crawfish. Nearly 2,500 acres have been designated for hunting, fishing, kayaking, hiking, and hosting retreats and family gatherings.

3. What are you most proud of?

In 2020, PJF Farm hosted tours with world-renowned wildlife ecologists to develop a detailed plan for wildlife conservation and ecological restoration opportunities. PJF Farm is home to spectacular seasonal wildlife communities associated with three major ecosystems, six individual habitat types, and one of the largest mixed wading bird rookeries in the state of Louisiana. More than 300 wildlife species have been identified at PJF Farm.

4. Where do you see your business in 10 years? What are your plans for the future?

Our goal is to continue to renovate our cabins so we can become the premier host in Acadiana for people who love nature and being outdoors. Currently, the PJF Farm Lodge sleeps 16 people and is suitable for family gatherings, retreats, and meetings. Lil Bleu is our newly renovated cabin that sits across from our bird rookery and sleeps up to six people. It’s nestled deep in the woods and perfect for the adventurer and explorer. We hope to see many new generations add to our story as they each bring something special to the property for others to enjoy.

5. 1A is making an impact as we take an active role in improving the community we live in. Our investors are making an impact, too! – What does impact mean to you? How is your company making an impact?
