Service comes naturally for 2021 Civic Cup winner Barry Berthelot

Giving back to the Lafayette community comes naturally to Barry Berthelot.

It started when he was in high school with Key Club and has continued into his adult life with Berthelot offering his time and talent to more than a dozen Acadiana organizations.

"I enjoyed serving the community and being involved in different ways," he said. "The older you get and the more successful you get, you're really asked to do more. So I hardly ever said no."

Berthelot was recognized for his volunteer contributions when he was awarded the 2021 Civic Cup. He is the 89th recipient and will be honored during a banquet on Tuesday at the Petroleum Club. The award is given to an individual who has given their time and resources to improving the Lafayette community through philanthropy.

"Being included in that group is a great compliment," Berthelot said. "It's sort of reassuring that your work was appreciated and made a difference."

The Lafayette Civic Cup, an event of the Community Foundation of Acadiana, has been awarded yearly since 1933.
