1. Give us a brief history of your company.

A long time ago when Phil’s father was a young boy in Church Point, Louisiana, he was very creative with his toys. His favorite toys were things he made with his mother’s empty wooden spools. In Cajun French, the word for these wooden spools is ‘Fezzo’. Everywhere he went he always had these spool toys with him, One day, the local postmaster began calling him Fezzo – a name he carried with him all his life.

In July 1979, Phil’s family opened a grocery store in Rayne, Louisiana and called it Fezzo’s Supermarket. In July 1999, twenty years to the month later, Phil and Pat opened their first restaurant. When it came time to decide on the name, it was clear. In honor of Phil’s dad, they named it Fezzo’s Seafood, Steakhouse, and Oyster Bar.

2. What would you tell the rest of Acadiana makes you special?

The individual Cajun experience that we bring to each of our guests. We want them to feel like they are home but in a professional atmosphere.

3. What are you most proud of?

The community and team members. We are proud to have served Acadiana the last 21 years and to be voted Best Cajun Restaurant for the past 11 years by our guests. We’ve seen the community pull through and support us through times that this area has never seen before. Our team members have also played such a vital role as we continue to grow and create leaders in our community.

4. Where do you see your business in 10 years? What are your plans for the future?

We want to grow in our community and continue sharing our Cajun culture with everyone we impact.

5. 1A is making an impact as we take an active role in improving the community we live in. Our investors are making an impact, too! – What does impact mean to you? How is your company making an impact?

We are dedicated to give back to the same community that has supported us thus far. We team up with different organizations throughout the year. To name a few the Healing House and Love Acadiana are big non-profits we support. Every year we do the Martini Gala that is associated to the Healing House. We have the founder come in and speak to our team to drive passion behind the purpose. It’s important that our team understands the impact we make on these children’s lives. Every year we do the Gobble Box with Love Acadiana and feed hundreds of families in need for Thanksgiving. All throughout the year we donate food and our time to help where it’s needed. We are currently doing hurricane relief across South Louisiana. We truly believe that making an impact means being present and treating others how they should be treated.
