Legislators worked diligently last week to move bills through committees, as well as each chamber, clearing the calendar to make room for the budget battle in the last two weeks of session. Senators pulled especially long hours last week, gaveling in on Friday, and even Memorial Day Monday, in order to continue consideration of the House-passed budget bill.

3. What are you most proud of?

Delta Biofuel has announced a $100 million final investment decision for the construction and start up of a full-scale renewable fuel production facility in Iberia Parish that will convert sugarcane waste into feedstock for low-emissions energy generation.

The company is expected to create 126 new direct jobs with an average salary of $62,500. Louisiana Economic Development estimates the project will result in an additional 149 indirect jobs, for a total 275 new jobs in the Acadiana region.

Amedisys Home Health, One Acadiana and the Lafayette Council on Aging have partnered to host a fan and water drive, benefiting the members of the Lafayette Council on Aging. The drive is scheduled to take place on June 8, 2023, from 8am- 11am at the One Acadiana office, located at 804 East St. Mary Blvd. We are collecting box fans and cases of water. Fans can be new or used, and in good working condition.

The Revenue Estimating Conference (REC) met last week to revise their revenue projections, where they recognized $323 million in additional income for use in the current budget, and more than $400 million in additional revenue for next year’s budget, meaning legislators have even more excess funds at their disposal than originally planned.

LAFAYETTE, LA - Elder Outreach, a Louisiana-based nursing and rehabilitation organization serving a large part of Acadiana, has expanded its senior living services by acquiring Senior Helpers of Lafayette. Michele Veillon, Elder Outreach’s longtime Vice President of Marketing, will now serve as Senior Helpers’ new CEO and co-owner.

Washington, DC – The International Economic Development Council (IEDC) announces that One Acadiana has once again been recognized as one of 73 economic development organizations accredited by IEDC as an Accredited Economic Development Organization (AEDO). Originally accredited in 2020, the organization was reaccredited by IEDC following three successful years of activity as an AEDO member.
