A 33-acre site in Broussard has been certified for economic development under the state’s certified sites program.

The site, referred to as the Maxie & Vida Girouard site at 205 N. Girouard Road, is the 24th certified site in Acadiana and eighth in Lafayette Parish, One Acadiana officials announced. The certification helps agencies connect companies who are interested in locating in Louisiana find potential sites, which leads to job growth and investment in the region.

First Solar, the largest solar energy manufacturer in the Western Hemisphere, announced it has selected Acadiana Regional Airport as the site of its fifth American manufacturing facility. The company said it will invest up to $1.1 billion in the facility, which will produce high-performance photovoltaic (PV) solar modules. The project is expected to be complete in the first half of 2026.
Today, Broussard Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) and Lafayette Economic Development Authority (LEDA) with One Acadiana (1A), and SLEMCO announced that a 33.4-acre site located in Lafayette Parish has been certified under the Louisiana Economic Development (LED) Certified Sites program.
