Advancial Partners with Second Harvest Food Bank to Help Feed Local Families in Need

LAFAYETTE, LA (September 1, 2023)Advancial Federal Credit Union is excited to launch its 3rd Annual Swipe and Support campaign to raise funds for Second Harvest Food Bank of South Louisiana. Funds raised by this campaign will go to support Second Harvest’s Makin’ Groceries Mobile Market program, a custom-built truck that brings fresh groceries to underserved areas throughout the Acadiana area. The announcement was officially made on Thursday, August 31 during a ribbon cutting located at Advancial’s branch on Johnston Street.

“We are excited to kick off another year of Swipe and Support,” says Lacey Maynor, Advancial’s Community Development Manager. “The Makin’ Groceries Mobile Market meets a critical need in our region and we are happy for the opportunity to help bring healthy, affordable food options to areas with limited access.”

Second Harvest Food Bank leads the fight against hunger in South Louisiana by providing food access, advocacy, education, and disaster response. In addition to providing food and support to over 700 community partners and programs across 23 parishes, staff and volunteers distribute the equivalent of more than 32 million meals to over 210,000 people a year.

"We are incredibly grateful for the partnership with Advancial and their support through their Swipe and Support campaign, which will help in raising awareness and vital funds for our Makin' Groceries Mobile Market program," says Natalie Jayroe, CEO & President for Second Harvest Food Bank. "Makin' Groceries has impacted the lives of so many families across Acadiana by providing access to fresh produce, dairy products, and other essential grocery items. Yet, hunger remains a real and persistent problem in our community, and it takes efforts like this to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who are struggling with food insecurity. Advancial’s Swipe and Support campaign is a testament to the power of community and collaboration, and we are humbled by the generosity of Advancial and its cardholders. We extend our deepest appreciation to all those involved in this effort."

Swipe and Support launched in 2021 and has seen Advancial members raise over $37,000 for local organizations, including over $16,000 for Downtown Lafayette’s accessible playground, which is scheduled to break ground later this year, and over $21,000 for Acadiana Animal Aid in 2022. To contribute, Advancial members simply use their Visa® Rewards Plus credit card from September 1 through November 30, and a percentage of all Acadiana-area transactions will be donated to keep the Makin’ Groceries Mobile Market on the road.
