Our economy cannot recover without child care.

Before the pandemic hit, accessing quality child care was a challenge, with the average monthly cost for two children totaling $996. For 80% of all Louisiana parents, borrowing money to afford care is required to work. According to the 2018 ALICE report, there are 212,980 ALICE — Asset-Limited, Income-Constrained, Employed — households with children in Louisiana, unable to earn a survival budget, choosing between basics like food, medicine and child-care quality.

Tort Reform to Lower Auto Insurance Rates

For Mary Hopkins, 2020 was supposed to be positive.

Back in February, Hopkins and her husband, Jim, went to France to buy wares for their store, Renaissance Market — a shop in the Oil Center known for French antiques, vintage Chanel jewelry and other unique merchandise. 

The trip was a "leap of faith," she said, hoping that the economy, especially oil and gas, would hold up. They filled a 40-foot container with goods, but months later, the container is still in France due to issues caused by coronavirus.

LAFAYETTE, La., – The Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts (AIVA) has announced winners in the 26th Annual Communicator Awards, presenting One Acadiana (1A) with a Silver Award of Distinction for its “Nine United” video series. 

One Acadiana has brought back a portal to help jobseekers during the Covid-19 pandemic. Anna Osland, Director of Workforce and Policy Initiatives at One Acadiana, virtually stopped by News15 at Noon to explain what this portal can offer to those unemployed due to the global pandemic.

The site is a collaboration of regional partners including One Acadiana, LEDA, Acadiana Workforce Solutions, and several others. The goal is to connect workers who have lost a job as a result of COVID-19 with retraining and employment resources.

One Acadiana is kicking off a new “Yes, We’re Open!” campaign to help spread the word across the region that 1A member companies are open for business. Victoria Alleman with One Acadiana, visited News15 at Noon virtually to share about their latest endeavor.

One Acadiana named Steven P. Hebert as its board chairman Monday following the resignation of former chair Natalie Harder. 

Hebert, president and CEO of the Billeaud Companies, will finish Harder's term after she left her post as chancellor of South Louisiana Community College to take the helm of Coker University in South Carolina. 

Hebert, who was serving as chair-elect, will move into the position. He joined the board in 2018.
