Louisiana's new secretary of economic development has launched an 11-stop tour of the state with a single purpose in mind: boosting local economies around Louisiana.

The state Department of Transportation and Development is extending the timeline for input on the proposed Interstate 49 Connector through Lafayette, in part to consider changes in the community in the years since plans for the road were last subject to public scrutiny.

DOTD in September launched an 18-month public outreach effort focused on such issues as the location of parks underneath the interstate, landscaping, pedestrian and bike paths, lighting and aesthetic design themes for the road.

LAFAYETTE – One Acadiana (1A) has hired a remarkable leader to direct the development and execution of 1A’s government relations strategy, including advocacy efforts, lobbying activities, and coalition building.

One Acadiana has hired Lafayette native Phyllis Mouton to direct the development and execution of the economic development organization’s government relations strategy, including advocacy efforts, lobbying activities and coalition building.

Mouton, who most recently worked as special assistant to the chancellor for government relations at Baton Rouge Community College, will serve as vice president of governmental affairs, a newly created position. She joins 1A Feb. 1.

Phyllis Mouton is leaving Baton Rouge Community College after 18 years to take on a new role with One Acadiana, the economic development organization for the nine-parish Acadiana area formerly known as the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce.

Effective Feb. 1, Mouton will be vice president of governmental affairs for One Acadiana, in charge of directing the development and execution of its government relations strategy, including advocacy efforts, lobbying and coalition building.

One Acadiana has a director to lead the development and execution of its government relations strategy, including advocacy efforts, lobbying activities, and coalition building.

Phyllis Mouton, currently special assistant to the Chancellor for Government Relations at Baton Rouge Community College, will serve as vice president of Governmental Affairs for One Acadiana, according to a press release from One Acadiana.
