Greenberry Industrial, a Washington-based fabricator and contractor serving a wide range of industrial markets, announced that it is in the process of converting a shipyard fabrication facility into a manufacturing plant that will result in a significant number of new jobs in Jefferson Davis Parish.

1. Give us a brief history of your organization. 

Of all the things working for and against Acadiana in its quest to become a more vibrant city, one thing stands out in the current era of knowledge-driven economy.

It’s patents, and the region is blowing away the rest of the state. During Thursday’s CivicCon event hosted by One Acadiana, UL economist Gary Wagner noted how that data point can be a way to grow the economy and lure more people to the region.

One Acadiana and the Kathleen Babineaux Blanco Public Policy Center at UL Lafayette (Blanco Center) have partnered to develop a new dashboard that provides an at-a-glance look at regional data on population, employment, education, and well-being.

Most people would agree that a strong economy requires a strong workforce, but what may surprise many is that childcare is critical to a strong workforce. Now more than ever, our lawmakers must collaborate with businesses to ensure that childcare, in all forms, is available to working parents.

Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, employee absences and turnover due to childcare issues cost Louisiana employers $762 million per year. Imagine the cost today.

A move to create educational savings accounts for students could be a controversial topic during the upcoming legislative session, the head of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry said.

Louisiana's Legislature wrapped up their once-a-decade special session on redistricting February 18, two days ahead of schedule.

High-Level Outcomes

Legislators approved new district maps for the following government bodies, which largely maintain the status quo:

LAFAYETTE, LOUISIANAFebruary 21, 2022 – Broussard, LeBlanc, and Associates, a private wealth advisory practice of Ameriprise Financial Services, LLC. in Lafayette, has earned the 2021 Ameriprise Client Experience Award.

In the national 2021 J.D. Powers Electric Utility Business Customer Satisfaction Study, Lafayette-based SLEMCO ranked seventh out of the nation’s 145 largest electric utilities. Residential customers in over 101 million households scored their power companies performance based on; power quality and reliability; price; billing and payment; communications; corporate citizenship; and customer care. SLEMCO’s overall score of 808 outpaced the national average of 748.
