Lafayette, LA - Red River Bank hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its first full-service banking center in the Acadiana market on June 7, 2022. Located at 1911 West Pinhook Road in Lafayette, this branch opened on January 26, 2022, as Red River Bank’s 27th banking center in Louisiana.

It was a relatively quiet final week of session at the Capitol, as the state operating and capital outlay budgets, two items that are typically debated through the last minutes of the session, were sent to the Governor’s desk last month. Several 1A-supported priority bills also made it to the finish line earlier in session, though a few key measures still on 1A’s radar were finalized last week or are still pending action.

1. Give us a brief history of your organization. 

Several 1A-priority bills were sent to the Governor’s desk last week, including workforce development measures 1A is supporting as part of our 55 by 25 initiative, and bills extending key economic development programs in the state. Legislators also made progress on advancing 1A-supported occupational licensing and small business innovation bills.

Lafayette, LA: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Acadiana announced today its aim to transform mentorship in local communities with an unprecedented gift of $500,000. The gift, from billionaire philanthropist MacKenzie Scott, supports the organization in furthering its mission to ensure young people have access to powerful mentoring experiences that empower them with a plan for their future and a mentor whose impact lasts a lifetime.

Supreme Rice, one of the largest rice-milling operations in Louisiana, is investing $16.2 million to develop parboil facilities in Crowley and Mermentau for a new line of ready-to-eat products. The expansion will create 20 direct new jobs, and LED estimates the project will result in 79 indirect jobs, for a total of nearly 100 new jobs in Acadia Parish. The company will retain 181 jobs at its current locations.  

The budget approved by the legislature last week includes several of One Acadiana's priorities, including money for I-49, increased funding for early child care and education and replenishing of the unemployment trust fund.

The budget bill is now on the governor's desk for approval after it passed in the Louisiana House 88-7 and the Senate 38-0. There are several other companion bills addressing other state expenditures, such as the capital outlay bills, which has also been sent to the governor.

Budget Sent to Governor’s Desk with Historic Infrastructure Funding

Big moves were made in Baton Rouge last week as the Legislature sent the $39 billion state budget to the Governor’s desk. Among the investments in the funding measures are a $1,500 boost to teacher pay, $84 million for early care and education, and $200 million toward completion of I-49 South.
