Urban Core Revitalization

Home » Advocacy » Urban Core Revitalization

Every region has a physical center that serves as a focal point for residents and visitors alike, and the quality of a region’s brand is heavily defined by the quality of its core. In addition to being a quality of life asset, the core is a primary measuring stick for how our region stacks up against other places. Our regional core – including the areas around Downtown Lafayette and UL Lafayette – is experiencing renewal and growth, with significant new investments underway or announced, and it will be important to keep building on this momentum.

Vibrant Acadiana

We must drive the journey to revitalize our region’s core such that we provide an urban experience that attracts and retain young talent, as well as businesses seeking attractive amenities for their location and expansion. That’s why fostering vibrancy in Acadiana’s urban core is one of the key pillars of the Vibrant Acadiana initiative.

Invest Acadiana

Invest Acadiana is an initiative powered by Acadiana Planning Commission and One Acadiana to promote Opportunity Zone investment throughout the Acadiana Region.

Invest Acadiana serves to:

  1. Highlight how Opportunity Zones can complement existing and prospective economic development activities
  2. Serve as a matchmaker between project developers, Opportunity Zone investors, and Opportunity Zone communities in the region
  3. Kickstart investment in local Opportunity Funds

Acadiana’s nine-parish region includes 25 federally designated Opportunity Zones (OZs). In 2019, Invest Acadiana received recognition as a Top 20 Opportunity Zone Catalyst for the Forbes OZ20 – a nationwide campaign recognizing those who emulate best practices of the federal OZ legislation.

How We Compete

Strong quality-of-life infrastructure is often a differentiating factor in business and talent location decisions. 1A’s “How We Compete” report makes the case for investing in quality-of-life infrastructure as essential to the future economic competitiveness of Lafayette and south Louisiana’s nine-parish Acadiana region.

With testimonials from local business leaders, case studies from other communities that are investing – both public and private investment – and policy recommendations, this is our playbook to win jobs and talents.
