Chambers Health Trust

One Acadiana has partnered with the Chambers Health Trust (CHT) and the Greater Jefferson Chamber of Commerce to offer 1A members a multiple employer welfare arrangement (MEWA), the Chambers Health Plan.

The Chambers Health Trust (CHT) is a group health plan that pools multiple employers to deliver large-group advantages to small and mid-sized businesses, including potential cost savings, better plan options, and greater pricing stability compared to traditional small group insurance.

CHT is a self-funded program created exclusively for Louisiana businesses and works with trusted statewide partners:

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana – Third-Party Administrator, with access to the full BCBS provider network.
  • Liviniti – Pharmacy Benefit Manager, offering multiple options to reduce prescription drug costs.

CHT is licensed and audited by the Louisiana Department of Insurance.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is a Multiple Employer Welfare Arrangement (MEWA)?

A multiple employer welfare arrangement (MEWA), also described as a multiple employer trust, is when a group of employers pool their contributions (premiums) in a self-funded benefits plan for their employees.

What is the difference between a MEWA and a more traditional insurance program?

A MEWA is a self-funded plan. Many, but not all, groups will be able to experience a competitive rate that may not be available through traditional insurance programs. In addition, a MEWA can provide predictable, fixed monthly payments and protection with stop loss insurance.

What are One Acadiana’s enrollment requirements in terms of cost?

  • Groups do not need to be current One Acadiana members to apply for coverage, only to enroll in coverage from the Trust.
  • Existing One Acadiana members are eligible to join the Trust without changing their membership status in One Acadiana. It’s simply an additional benefit.
  • Louisiana businesses domiciled in the One Acadiana region, and not already a member of One Acadiana, must join One Acadiana to enroll in coverage.
  • Membership dues can be found at www.OneAcadiana.org/Join. The Chambers Health Trust will organize and cover the costs of 1A members’ affiliate membership in the Jefferson Chamber of Commerce.

What size employers can enroll in Chambers Health Trust?

Enrolling groups need to have a minimum of two (2) full-time employees enroll in a Chambers Health Plan. The Trust defines full-time employees as working 30 or more hours per week and receiving a W-2 and/or the owner(s) of the business (with proper ownership support documentation).

What is Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana’s relationship to the Chambers Health Trust?

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana is the contracted third-party administrator (TPA) of the Chambers Health Trust. Members carry a health insurance card that notifies providers that claims are to be submitted through the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana claims payment system and the health plans operate on the Blue Cross Blue Shield provider network.

What is Liviniti’s relationship to the Chambers Health Trust?

Liviniti is a pharmacy benefit manager headquartered in Natchitoches, Louisiana and has been contracted by the Chambers Health Trust to manage the plans’ pharmacy operations.
