DDA and Catholic Charities Partner to Expand Ambassador Program
The Downtown Development Authority’s ambassador program — which deploys uniformed crews seven days a week across downtown Lafayette for cleaning, maintenance, and hospitality services — is expanding. Catholic Charities of Acadiana has entered an agreement with the DDA to fund an extension of the program to its St. John Street campus and a 15-block surrounding area, adding a dedicated ambassador serving the neighborhood Monday through Friday.

Lafayette Wins $1M Bloomberg Philanthropies Mayors Challenge
Lafayette has been named one of 24 winners of the Bloomberg Philanthropies 2025–2026 Mayors Challenge, selected from more than 630 global applicants. The city’s winning proposal addresses aging private sewer infrastructure that allows stormwater to infiltrate the system during heavy rain, limiting capacity for new housing and redevelopment in parts of the city. The $1 million award will support repairs to failing private sewer lines at no cost to property owners, an effort city engineers estimate could unlock capacity for up to 10,000 additional housing units.

Festival International Celebrates Its 40th Anniversary
Downtown Lafayette will once again transform into an international stage when Festival International de Louisiane returns April 22–26, 2026. The free, five-day festival marks its 40th anniversary this year, featuring performers from more than 15 countries across seven stages. Festival International draws more than 300,000 attendees annually and generates an estimated $49 million in economic impact for the region.
