LAFAYETTE, LA — Andrew Mims, Founder and Managing Attorney of Oak Grove Estate Planning, has released a new book titled Don’t Let the State Decide, a practical guide to wills, trusts, and estate planning tailored specifically for Louisiana families.
After nearly twenty years of advising clients across Acadiana and throughout the state, Mims has seen firsthand how often families are left dealing with confusion, delays, and unintended consequences when proper planning is not in place. Louisiana’s unique legal system adds another layer of complexity, making it especially important for individuals to understand how their assets and decisions will be handled.
“This is something I see every day,” said Mims. “Families are forced into difficult situations, not because they did anything wrong, but because they didn’t realize how the law works. This book is meant to bring clarity to that.”
Don’t Let the State Decide breaks down common misconceptions around wills and trusts, explains how Louisiana law applies in real world situations, and outlines practical steps individuals can take to protect their families, preserve their assets, and ensure their wishes are carried out.
Mims is the Founder and Managing Attorney of Oak Grove Estate Planning, serving clients in Lafayette, the Acadiana region, and across Louisiana.
The book will be available on Amazon and in bookstores beginning April 14, 2026.
A local book launch event will be held in Lafayette later in April.
