Member Spotlight: Donna Bouman

1. Give us a brief history of your company.

I received my certification 5 years ago from the National Academy of Sports Medicine as a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT). In 2015 I obtained my Senior Fitness Specialist certification (SFS). My clients are either trained in my home gym, their home or even their office. The age range for people that I have trained is from 26 to 90.

2. What would you tell the rest of Acadiana makes you special?

I think the connection I have with my clients. I always make sure that each one of them feels comfortable in what they are doing and I stress to them that I work for them and encourage them to give me feedback on my performance for them and their expectations of me as a trainer.

3. What are you most proud of?

Each client is different so each exercise program has to be designed for them depending on their goals, their fitness level and whatever limitations they might have. I'm very fortunate to be able to do something that I love and I'm helping people live a healthier life and feel better about themselves. Listening to my clients is key.

4. Where do you see your business in 10 years?  What are your plans for the future?

10 years from now I'd like to still be doing the one on one training but I would like to expand to small group training (I currently have a small water fitness class). I would also like to get more into "sport specific training", training each client to be more skilled in their specific sport.

5. 1A is "Focused on Forward"-meaning we are taking an active role of improving the community we live in.  Our members are Focused on Forward, too!  What does Focused on Forward mean to you?  How is your company Focused on Forward?

Right now I am studying for my Corrective Exercise Certification and also my Nutrition Certification. I think it is so important to continue to educate myself not only through a new certification but also it's just as important to keep up with the changing fitness industry, be it new technology, training clients with different diseases or disabilities or different trends. For me education is the key to success.
