The Revenue Estimating Conference (REC) met last week to revise their revenue projections, where they recognized $323 million in additional income for use in the current budget, and more than $400 million in additional revenue for next year’s budget, meaning legislators have even more excess funds at their disposal than originally planned.

Washington, DC – The International Economic Development Council (IEDC) announces that One Acadiana has once again been recognized as one of 73 economic development organizations accredited by IEDC as an Accredited Economic Development Organization (AEDO). Originally accredited in 2020, the organization was reaccredited by IEDC following three successful years of activity as an AEDO member.

Legislators met for long hours again last week, including 7 hours of floor debate in the House on Thursday, more than two hours of which were spent on Speaker Schexnayder’s comprehensive carbon capture legislation that ultimately passed 98-1.

St. Martin Economic Development Authority (SMEDA) and the city of Breaux Bridge with One Acadiana (1A) and Cleco announced that a 43.10-acre site located in St. Martin Parish has been certified under the Louisiana Economic Development (LED) Certified Sites program.

Legislators continued moving bills through committee last week, advancing several 1A priority measures, including legislation to provide for more affordable property insurance in the State and to streamline student access to MJ Foster Promise Program funds. Later in the week, however, all eyes were on the House as the full chamber considered the $43 billion state budget over the course of a nearly 8-hour debate.

Legislators continued digging in to tax, insurance, and education proposals last week, with some committees meeting even after their respective chambers adjourned for the day. Several 1A priorities are moving swiftly, including efforts to provide for more affordable property insurance in the state, but lawmakers and spectators alike have a certain budget decision in the back of their minds that may affect the mood in the Legislature in the coming weeks.
