Dr. Mayra Bustillo comes to SWLA Center for Health Services with over 25 years of experience as a pediatrician and pediatric pulmonologist, working in various clinics and community health centers across the state of Louisiana and Texas. She most recently served as the Head of the Pediatric Department at Teche Action Clinic, where she diagnosed and treated infants, children and adolescents with various medical conditions, conducted examinations, prescribed medications, administered vaccinations and offered guidance on child health and development. As a pediatric pulmonologist, Dr. Bustillo has expanded her practice to evaluating each child’s lung health, diagnosing the cause of the breathing problem and developing a treatment plan for children with breathing problems.
Dr. Bustillo obtained her medical doctorate degree from the National Autonomous University of Honduras. She then completed her Pediatric Residency program from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. Following the completion of her residency, Dr. Bustillo completed her fellowship in Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Medicine at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
Dr. Bustillo strongly believes she was called to be a pediatric physician and wishes to serve the children in the uninsured and underserved communities. Dr. Bustillo’s passion extends beyond basic pediatric care. Her commitment also involves providing education and information that parents can utilize ensuring children receive the proper care needed to enjoy a happy and healthy quality of life.
Dr. Bustillo believes “with regular well-child visits, healthy diets and positive home environments, the children in our communities will grow up to be big, strong and successful adults.”
